Reporting to the Sr. Director of Manufacturing, the HSE Coordinator will be responsible for the daily coordination of the corporate health, safety, and environmental management system. The HSE Coordinator is responsible for the ongoing administration, and implementation of corporate HSE programs and activities.


Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Support designated client group, HSE Manager and senior HSE Coordinators as required to achieve department goals and implement the corporate HSE management system
  • Promote HSE awareness, sharing of best practices, training, and education throughout the branch
  • Foster HSE as a core value to the Compass corporate culture by provide guidance, support, and coaching to all employees
  • Ensure adherence to corporate HSE Policies, Procedures, and Practices, regulations, laws, and standards
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the branch and actively provide support and coaching to all functions
  • Collaborate on the development of HSE Procedures and Practices
  • Collaborate on the development of HSE bulletins, alerts, and communications
  • Collaborate on the development of Hazard Assessments
  • Participate in the Incident Investigation Process
  • Ensure the timely completion of Worker’s Compensation reporting and assist with Return to Work program
  • Ensure an effective contractor vetting and approval process
  • Responsible for ensuring accurate HSE records and documentation and ensuring timely reporting/corrective action
  • Responsible for ensuring accurate SDS Manuals, Training Matrixes, and various data spreadsheets
  • Track HSE performance and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Coordination of internal and external Training initiatives
  • Coordination of HSE testing initiatives including audiometric, pulmonary, and post-incident
  • Participate in and lead tool-box meetings with branch operations
  • Coordinate branch new hire HSE orientations and facility tours
  • Participate in internal audits to ensure compliance with corporate policy, legal requirements, and any other requirements, and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Participate in external auditing initiatives as required
  • Provide coverage for Junior HSE Coordinator role as required
  • Additional duties as required

Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Completion or active enrollment in a post-secondary occupational health and safety program, equivalent post-secondary education, or trades/technical certification
  • 3 to 5 years experience in an HSE role with experience in the administration of HSE programs, delivery of HSE training, workshops and meetings, collaboration with key stakeholders for the implementation of HSE initiatives
  • Intermediate knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Legislation/Regulations
  • Experience with COR, and/or ISO 45001 would be an asset
  • Trades experience with manufacturing and/or field service operations preferred
  • Experience working with 3rd Party Compliance and Registries would be an asset
  • Exceptional commitment to maintaining confidentiality
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with ability to communicate with staff at all levels of the organization, visitors, and government agencies
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others
  • Strong planning, organization, time-management, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adjustments to priorities throughout the day, and comfortable with meeting tight deadlines
  • Valid and current Driver’s License and First Aid/CPR/AED required
  • Fluent ability to speak, read, and write in English

Physical Demands

  • Requires employee to stand for at least 50% of the time
  • Requires employee to sit for at least 50% of the time
  • Requires employee to occasionally climb stairs or ladders and must be capable of maintaining balance on stairs or ladders without assistance
  • Must be able to communicate with, and respond to others, in person and on the telephone
  • Must be able to occasionally lift at least 10 pounds
  • Required to operate a motor vehicle no more than 25% of the time
  • Requires work in both indoor and outdoor conditions
  • Requires exposure to loud working environments
  • Requires moving and maintaining self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces
  • Must wear required PPE, including fire retardant clothing, hard hats, face shields, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, as applicable
